Jul 04 Janana Summer Encounter 2011 Jul. 4th through Jul. 13th, 2011 in Brumana High SchoolThe Janana Summer Encounter is a residential 9-day camp (140 participants, for more than 15 workshops, presentations, events etc..) held every year and attended by animators, facilitators, and NGO staff members from both Palestinian and Lebanese organizations in Lebanon, giving them the opportunity to get away from the rigors of daily life, learn new skills, and immerse themselves in a unique atmosphere of creativity, enjoyment, skill-building, and sharing. Lately, the Encounter is also witnessing participation from the neighboring Arab Countries.
This year Encounter 2011 will be addressing two main themes; “Active Learning and Creative Expression” and “Conflict Transformation”.
a. The Active Learning and Creative Expression theme focuses on providing participants with innovative tools that they can use to encourage children and youth’s creative learning and active expression. Participants will be sensitized to basic notions and critical "out-of-the-box" thinking will be promoted. They will also be directed to useful resources and techniques that they can apply to encourage youngsters’ learning and expression.
b. The Conflict Transformation theme aims at providing NGO staff and animators with skills that they can use to positively transform faced conflicts. Participants will be sensitized to basic conflict related concepts and will be guided to acquire practical skills that they can apply to mediate conflicts erupting in their personal lives as well as in their work with children and youth.
The workshop itself will be participatory and will rely on participatory training techniques which enable the participants to explore and discover by themselves and apply what they have learned.
Furthermore, throughout the Encounter, participants will be provided with a forum for informal networking and coordination. Their active participation will be enhanced, and with your support, they will be given the chance to put what they have learnt into practice.

May 19 الذاكرة المُلهِمة- Inspirational Memory May. 19th through May. 21st, 2011 in Hareisa- Lebanon
An "Inspirational Memory" regional meeting will be organized by AL-JANA Center & Arab Education Forum within the Hakaya Program.
The aim of the meeting is to develop a more in-depth understanding of the various pioneering experiences where memory (oral history/ culture) inspires cultural production and pro –active learning tools; Try to collectively “make sense of memories”; and create a renewed common vision for future work in this field. In broader terms, and within the HAKAYA program, this meeting will help us make sense of the connection between “memories” and learning, as well as develop common actions that can transform people’s stories into contemporary narratives that can become an ongoing and integral part of people’s life, learning, and artistic expression. -

يعتمد سيناريو العرض على فكرة "الإختلاف في الشكل – طويل وقصير القامة" كأداة للنقاش والأستفزاز بإطار هزلي وضاحك وبنفس الوقت يتسم بالجدّية والموضوعية، و يفتح الباب على مجموعة من الأسئلة حول الآخر وطريقة تقبلنا له لمجرد إختلافه بالشكل أو بالفكر. الإختلاف بالشكل هو مدخل لنقاش فكرة "الإختلاف" بشكل عام، و هو ترميز لما هو في الحقيقة صورة للإختلافات السياسية، العقائدية، الدينية، العرقية، الجنسية، ألخ. و التي نطرحها مرمزة بإختلاف "طول وقصرالقامة" بشكل تهكمي وساخر على موقفنا منه.

تحفيز التلاميذ على التعبير وعلى ابداء اقتراحات وحلول للقضايا التي تناقشها المسرحية عبر التدخل في النص، وتشجيع التلاميذ على النقد والتحليل والاستكشاف وتقبل آراء الآخرين.
يعتمد سيناريو المسرحية على احداث تحصل داخل المنطقة الواحدة، وداخل المدرسة والبيت، ويركز على الاختلاف بكل جوانبه ويفتح حواراً مع المشاركين حول قضايا تهمهم. كما يركز النص على لمصطلحات التي يستعملها الاطفال/الشباب والتي يمكن ان تكون مؤذية للغير دون معرفة مسبقة، وعلى طرق التعامل مع الاختلافات وكيفية العمل على "المناسب" وخاصة عندما تكون "مختلفا".
كيف تكون فاعلاً في مجتمعك؟ كيف تمدّ يد العون للآخر؟ كيف تنفتح على الأشياء الجديدة؟ كيف تحلّ نزاعاً بحكمة؟
أسئلة طرحتها منال على نفسها في مسرحية "حدا يسمعني"، وهي فتاة انتقلت مع والديها إلى محيط جديد. ومنه تلقّت أجوبة سلبية على أسئلتها في خضم صراعها مع عناصر البيئة الجديدة.
والعمل المسرحي يلقي بإشكاليّة على المشاهدين ويدعوهم إلى المشاركة في حلّها عبر مساعدة الشخصيات والتدّخل للحكم على مواقفها والفصل بينها.

الافلام التي سوف تعرض في المدراس هي افلام مختارة من مهرجان جنى الدولي لسينما الاطفال والشباب الذي نظم في العام 2009. وقد هدف المهرجان الى تطوير النظرة الفنية والسينمائية لدى الشباب/ات واعطائهم/ن المساحة المطلوبة للتعبير عن ارائهم/ن ومجتمعهم/ن. تركزت افلام مهرجان 2009 على موضوع احترام الاختلاف ومراعاته، بينما نحن، نخاف منه. وبسبب الاحداث الجارية من حولنا، كان لا بد لنا ان نقف ونفكر في موضوع الاختلاف، وأن نتساءل لِمَ الخوف من الاختلاف و من الآخر؟ ولماذا نجد أنفسنا مندفعين أكثر فأكثر إلى هاوية ؟ "إذا لم تكونوا معنا) مثلنا( فأنتم ضدنا"؟

Jan 07 "someone listen to me" Jan. 7th through Jan. 7th, 2011 in ثانوية الاشرفية الاولىيعتمد سيناريو المسرحية على احداث تحصل داخل المنطقة الواحدة، وداخل المدرسة والبيت، ويركز على الاختلاف بكل جوانبه ويفتح حواراً مع المشاركين حول قضايا تهمهم. كما يركز النص على لمصطلحات التي يستعملها الاطفال/الشباب والتي يمكن ان تكون مؤذية للغير دون معرفة مسبقة، وعلى طرق التعامل مع الاختلافات وكيفية العمل على "المناسب" وخاصة عندما تكون "مختلفا".
كيف تكون فاعلاً في مجتمعك؟ كيف تمدّ يد العون للآخر؟ كيف تنفتح على الأشياء الجديدة؟ كيف تحلّ نزاعاً بحكمة؟
أسئلة طرحتها منال على نفسها في مسرحية "حدا يسمعني"، وهي فتاة انتقلت مع والديها إلى محيط جديد. ومنه تلقّت أجوبة سلبية على أسئلتها في خضم صراعها مع عناصر البيئة الجديدة.والعمل المسرحي يلقي بإشكاليّة على المشاهدين ويدعوهم إلى المشاركة في حلّها عبر مساعدة الشخصيات والتدّخل للحكم على مواقفها والفصل بينها.

تهدف عروض الافلام الى خلق منابر حوار وتبادل خبرات بين الشباب والشابات من خلال الاستفادة من تجارب مختلفة حول العالم. كما تهدف الى تنمية الحس الفني لديهم. المواضيع التي تعالجها الافلام هي مواضيع تتحدث عن العنف، العنصرية، والاختلاف بكل اشكاله. هذا لا يمنع وجود بعض الافلام المرحة والهادفة.

The main aim of this workshop is that it will be able to educate the participants about issues of conflict, inter-cultural dialogue and co-existence
This workshop will engage youth (15 participants; equal ratio of male/female of Palestinian and Lebanese communities in a process of creative expression where they produce pieces telling their own personal stories relating to conflict through various multi-media tools including graphics, audio, video animation and web publishing. The short films ( 1- 10 minutes) that will be produced in this workshop will be screened with other conflict related films to different youth audiences.
The workshop will take place 12 days (From Tuesday Oct. 05 to Sunday Oct. 17, 2010)

Set partly in a refugee camp in Rafah, this is a remarkable look back at fifty years of Palestinian and Arab history, through photographs, reportage and the voices of these photographers today.To My Father is a deeply personal and moving film that confirms the talent of Gaza-born director Shahadah, who having worked all over the world as a director, cameraman and journalist, recently turned to film making. A photo here is not just a photo: it brings history to life.

When she returns to dance, she is confronted to Kais, a Palestinian returnee, who has taken her role as the head choreographer. Kamar's life is thrown into turmoil as she becomes increasingly attached to Kais, and caught in the midst of her desire to dance and breaking the family and society taboos of the prisoner's wife's role while life under occupation rages on.

But the daily life in Palestine is a bit chaotic and takes him in many other directions before he gets home.
اضطر القاضي أبو ليلى أن يعمل كسائق لسيارة أجرة، بعدما عجزت ميزانية الدولة عن دفع راتبه. وفي عيد الميلاد ابنته ليلى السابع، ألحّت زوجته عليه كي يعود إلى البيت باكراً، ويأتي بهدية وقالب حلوى. فرّغ أبو ليلى جدوله يومه ليلبي هذه المهمة. لكن الحياة اليومية في فلسطين فوضوية بعض الشيء، وستقوده في اتجاهات مختلفة قبل أن يصل إلى البيت.

In what is left of the city of Jaffa, a man about to lose his house contemplates his fate. Meanwhile, two women remain tied to their homes. One finds comfort feeding her old mother, until her house is taken over by an Israeli film crew. The other immerses herself in dreams of love whilst making wedding decorations. In a nearby café, an old captain sits motionless the whole day, while a man moves restless like a fish in an aquarium. For these Palestinians, this is a way of life, holding onto hope through their own rituals.
في ما تبقى من مدينة حيفا، يقف رجل متأمّلاَ قدره وهو على وشك أن يفقد منزله. وفي الوقت نفسه، تتمسّك امرأتان ببيتيهما بقوة. الأولى تعتني بأمها المتعبة، حتى يقتحم البيت فريق تصوير إسرائيلي. أما المرأة الأخرٍٍى، فتختبىء وراء أحلام الحب وهي تعد لمراسم زفاف. في مقهى مجاور، يجلس ربان مسن اليوم بأسره بينما يتخبط رجل آخر مثل سمكة في حوض. إنها حياة أولئك الفلسطينيين الذين يتمسكون بخيط أمل حسب طريقتهم الخاصة، وطقوسهم اليومية.

Andoni tries to cure himself through therapy sessions, revealing internal terrains of displacement and alienation to his therapist while his daily encounters with friends and relatives impersonate the reality of thousands of Palestinians, displaced from their history and homeland.
يعاني رائد أنضوني من صداع ناتج عن التوتر – من النوع الذي يدوم لأجيال ولا تلوح له نهاية قريبة. يأتي ذلك كون أنضوني فلسطينياً يعيش في رام الله، حيث يبدو أفق الحياة الخالية من التوتر متفلتاً. يحاول أنضوني أن يداوي نفسه من خلال جلسات علاج نفسي، فيكشف لمعالجه مساحات داخلية يكوّنها النزوح والعزلة، بينما تجسّد لقاءاته اليومية مع الأصدقاء والأهالي واقع آلاف الفلسطينيين المبعدين عن تاريخهم ووطنهم.

إنها قصة "م"، مخرج فلسطيني يسكن في بلد أوروبي، ويعمل على إنجاز فيلم وثائقي في فلسطين مبنيٍ على شهادات أفراد عاشوا أحداث نكبة العام 1948. تعلمه أخته أن ابن أخيه قام بقتل شاب، وأن عائلته في مدينة الناصرة في خطر. يُنصح بجمع حقائبه والعودة إلى أوروبا، ولكنه يرفض ذلك، ويقرّر الذهاب إلى الناصرة التي يصل إليها في أولى ساعات الصباح.

Following the celebration of “Al Quds, the capital of Arab Culture” in 2009, twenty NGOs working among Palestinian community in Lebanon decided together and launch a campaign in Lebanon for Al Quds with multiple cultural activities.
The Palestinian Civil Campaign for Al Quds, the Capital of Arab Culture-Lebanon planned to organize, for one year and a half, drawing competition in schools, competition about Palestine and Al Quds for students, concerts, and a Palestinian Film Festival.

To foster a wider audience (Lebanese and Palestinian) to come and see new Palestinian films
To focus on Al Quds identity and its destruction by the occupation
To foster joint cultural activities between Palestinians and Lebanese

Sep 14 TOT on Conflict Management Sep. 14th through Sep. 17th, 2010 in Crown Plaza
The workshop accommodate 30 participants, two teachers from each public school. The TOT will aim at developing the participants understanding of conflict and the way to constructively transform it. It will focus on the concept of conflict and the fact that it is a natural phenomenon, neither negative nor positive, but the style of managing a conflict makes the results negative or positive, and thus leads to social cohesion or disrupts it.
The workshops will also discuss the difference between the intensity of the conflict and its dimensions and how this intensity increases and decreases. Examples of conflicts between different people, ethnicities, and religious groups will be discussed and analyzed.

Since 2002, Janana Encounter has become a major regional forum for exchange, networking, and development of skills in working with children, youth, and communities, challenged with difficult circumstances.
Over 120 community workers, cultural activists, ngos animators, and librarians from the Arab world and pioneering experiences from around the world, come together for ten days in the idyllic grounds of Brummana High School, in the wooded mountains overlooking Beirut.

- Enhancing active participation and decision making
- Creative arts in healing

May 13 Power of Digital Story Workshop May. 13th through Jun. 5th, 2010 in AL-JANA Center
The main aim of this workshop is that it will be able to educate the participants about issues of conflict, inter-cultural dialogue and co-existence
This workshop will engage youth (15 participants; equal ratio of male/female of Palestinian and Lebanese communities in a process of creative expression where they produce pieces telling their own personal stories relating to conflict through various multi-media tools including graphics, audio, video animation and web publishing. The short films ( 1- 10 minutes) that will be produced in this workshop will be screened with other conflict related films to different youth audiences.
The workshop will take place three days a week (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) starting from May 13 to June 5, 2010 and it will be for 12 working days.

AL-JANA & the Janana network invites you to participate in the Janana Mobile Spring Festival that will tour marginalized communities engaging young and old.
The festival includes the following:
- Songs for children
- Street Theatre focusing on conflict transformation
- Clown Show that knows no boarders with friends
- A street carnival that engages people of all ages.
Children (8-14) are encouraged to express their issues in creative ways.
A number of performers, artists and musicians participate in the festival.
Among the unique characteristics of the Spring Festival is the cooperation between the libraries, organizations, and associations of civil society in addition to the coordination with schools and local municipalities.
Janana campaign aims at developing child-friendly libraries and encouraging active learning and creative expression amongst marginalized communities in Lebanon.

Films have an important role to play in expressing our thoughts and recording our daily reality. They allow us to become familiar with other people’s cultures and give us the chance to benefit from other people’s experiences and knowledge especially when the opportunity to travel to distant lands is limited. Film also has a role to play in developing people’s artistic sensibilities, especially for marginalized youth who generally do not have the tools to develop their technical and expressive abilities.
Goals
To mobilize local communities and gain their interest via the outdoor activities

Oct 20 Jana 5th International Film Festival For Children and Youth Oct. 20th through Oct. 27th, 2009 in LebanonChildren on the Margin Create their World
This festival targets children and youth and is a platform for their creations, giving youth space to express their issues and get introduced to different cultures from around the globe.
The main aims of this festival are fostering self-reflection & awareness, learning about the other, critical analyses of social norms and messages related to conflict. The festival tries to, introduce new information or analysis to the audience. It provides a ‘safe environment’ allowing youth to experiment with new ways of thinking, and reframing conflictual issues in integrative and constructive ways.
The festival includes a collection of films of different genres, fiction, documentation, animation films, made by children and young film-makers, or with their participation.
Participating Countries:Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, Germany, Southern Korea, Belgium, Spain, Sweden, Italy, Singapore, America, Norway, Bangladesh, England, Korea, Denmark, Mongolia, Holland, Ireland, Brazil, Poland, Canada, and Nepal.
What distinguishes the festival this year is the fact that it will be mobile, with shows in various Lebanese areas: Beirut/ Madina Theater, Tripoli/ House of Art, Hermel/ Government Palace Square, Tyre/ The House of Heritage and Culture, Beirut/ Burj El-Barajneh Camp, Nabatiyeh/ Kamel Youssef Jaber Social and Cultural Center.
The festival includes:- An exhibition entitled “Away from Home Again” created by children
- Workshops on how to make films and cartoons
The program is divided into two parts:
Morning screenings at Madina Theater from 21st to the 24th of October 2009, starting at 10 a.m. for students aged between 9 and 13 years.Evening screening are open to the interested public

The festival is a component of the conflict transformation program of ARCPA and part of the ARCPA / MEDICO International partnership started in 2009.

Jul 13 Media Workshop Jul. 13th through Jul. 26th, 2009 in Tyre, Mousa El-Sader FoundationWorkshop schedule and content.
The main purpose of this workshop is to bring together a group of Lebanese and Palestinian youth to work together to produce movies about their topics of interest. The duration of the workshop is 5 days which were divided as follows: first day addresses the theoretical issues concerned in producing movies, second and third day apply the theories in practice, the third and fourth are for making the actual movies where they go to the field and take their needed scenes, and finally the fifth day is set for the editing process.

يهدف عرض نص نصيص الى خلق منابر حوار عبر استخدام المسرح التفاعلي لاشراك الناشئة وايصال معلومات هادفة.
يعتمد سيناريو العرض على فكرة "الإختلاف في الشكل – طويل وقصير القامة" كأداة للنقاش والأستفزاز بإطار هزلي وضاحك وبنفس الوقت يتسم بالجدّية والموضوعية، و يفتح الباب على مجموعة من الأسئلة حول الآخر وطريقة تقبلنا له لمجرد إختلافه بالشكل أو بالفكر. الإختلاف بالشكل هو مدخل لنقاش فكرة "الإختلاف" بشكل عام، و هو ترميز لما هو في الحقيقة صورة للإختلافات السياسية، العقائدية، الدينية، العرقية، الجنسية، ألخ. و التي نطرحها مرمزة بإختلاف "طول وقصرالقامة" بشكل تهكمي وساخر على موقفنا منه.
فيتبنى "نصّ نصيص" موقفاً أن قصار القامة أذكى من الطوال، و يدعم مقولته بحجج "علمية"، ثم يحاول أن يدعم مقولته بتوريط "جماعته" من قصار القامة من بين الجمهور لمواجهة طوال القامة وتكون النتيجة أن الجمهور غالباً ما ينقسم الى جماعتين متناحرتين في إطار اللعبة الساخرة و ينتقل بعدها "نص نصيص" الى بدء الحديث عن المشاعر والأحاسيس لكل من الجماعتين، إحساس الإنتصار والإنكفاء للجماعتين.
الخاتمة تأتي لتستخلص حقائق مواقف الجمهور الممزوجة مع أحاسيس مرافقة لحالة الأنتصار أو الإنكفاء مقابل حقيقة التشارك والتكامل بين الأفراد والجماعات المبنية على التمايز وتحويل هذا الإختلاف الى عامل بنّاء وإيجابي في تحويل الصراع "الوهمي" الى فعل إيجابي.
