The Janana Spring Festival is a week long event held e ach year in the Palestinian refugee camps of Lebanon. ARCPA/AL-JANA, the librarians of the Children-Friendly Library Networks, (which has increased to 57) youth and volunteers who form part of the Child-Friendly Library Network work together to coordinate activities through out this week.
The “ Janana Spring Week ” this year included story telling, puppet shows, film screenings, learning through the mediums of painting, crafts, outdoor games, educational games, borrowing books, and other forms of creative expression. A series of activities were planned by the Child-Friendly Library Network, with each NGO setting up a program in their area for the week.
ARCPA/Al-Jana in coordination with the Child-Friendly Library Network was involved in producing, printing and distributing the program leaflet as well as the poster. Part of its contribution was organizing the traveling carnival that involved both local and international artists as well as the children of the camps. The artists toured and performed in six camps, gatherings and parks during this week.
or six days artists local and international juggled, did acrobatics, played music, sang, and presented a play in parks and NGO community centers around Lebanon. At the end of the show the performers took out a parade through the streets wearing various costumes and masks. Children, youth and adults watched in awe, laughed, sang and interacted with the various actors and activities. The streets lit up with laughter as the parade floated by. |
