Journalism workshop

• The duration of the workshop was three days
• Each workshop lasted for two hours from twelve till two in the afternoon.
• Dr. Hussein Shahidi was the trainer

The objectives of this workshop were for participants to be introduced to the principals of writing and reading articles in newspapers. In the first part of the workshop the trainer tried to gauge the expectations of the trainees by asking each one to write three sentences along with titles. This was followed by the trainer introducing the basics of and criteria for writing an article taking into account the following questions: Who did the action? Where did it happen? When did it happen? Why did it happen? And how did it happen? The participants used these questions objectively while taking into consideration the particularity of the accident and without making prejudgments and conclusions that are not built on facts. Getting to know these criteria helps in developing critical thinking and helps the trainee not to accept the flow of information that comes from the media. On the contrary it provokes the trainee to analyze the article and the dimensions it holds. According to these principals every trainee was expected to write a special article that deals about an incident of his or her choice, the articles were then critiqued.
